水漾森林 Mystery swampy forest.
There is a secret location in Chai-Yi County near Ali Mountain that not many people know about. There is this beautiful dammed lake that was caused by the 921 earthquake. What's special about this lake is, the trees were trapped in the flood slowly losing their leaves and dying eventually, and all the dead tree trucks stick out of the lakes like the telephone poles. It looks amazing with the blue sky and the reflection of the lake. People call this place "Mystery swampy forest." Around 10 years ago the club members of mountain hiking were planning a trip to the "Mystery swampy forest."

在921大地震後,嘉義縣阿里山鄉出現了一個秘境,一座因為地震阻斷溪流而產生的堰塞湖,這個湖特別的地方是,湖裡原有的樹因為泡在水裡而死亡,只留下一根根像電線桿的樹幹從水中竄出,配合藍天及湖水的倒影,大家稱這個地方為水漾森林。
I was very tempted, but unfortunately it was only open to club members, so I missed out on the opportunity. I was told you have to be fit to be able to make it because it would take 5-6 hours on foot in the winding mountain trail and occasionally there are vertical climbs. I am quite a small person, and I doubt if I would be able to carry all the gear with me and walk such a long way, I know the view would probably be worth it, but the moment I think I have to walk another 5-6 hours to get back. The reality starts to sink in.

大概是十年前我還在念大學的時候,登山社的同學計畫要到水漾森林去。我很有興趣可是因為只有開放給社員,所以我就錯過了。有人告訴我要去水樣森林需要很有體力,因為大概要走5-6小時的山路,偶爾還有垂直的攀爬。我不算高大,我懷疑我真的有辦法背那麼重的行囊走那麼遠嗎?我知道美景應該很值得看,可是一想到回程又是5-6個小時,我就怕了。
I watched a documentary about it not long ago, and it was saying the water level there is dropping dramatically. I do wish I could visit the lake before it disappears completely.
不久前我看了一段紀錄片,說水漾森林的水位急減少,我希望在它完全消失之前有機會去看。
