aggressive用於修飾人時指人的品行與行為,用於褒義時意思是“進取的; 精力充沛的; 過分活躍的”; 用於貶義時則指“挑釁的; 好鬥的”。 aggressive 也可用於修飾武器,指相對於“防禦性的”而言的“攻擊性的”。
aggressive作“侵略的”或心理學術語中“攻擊的”解時不用於比較等級。
通常表示“侵略性時”用aggressive：
如aggressive foreign policy（侵略性的外交政策），aggressive war（侵略戰爭）。在表示“侵略國”，習慣用aggressor nation，而不是aggressive nation。
